We are planning to go back there for lunch tomorrow to try the Po Boys. The cocktail, buffalo, and tarter sauces were tasty too. Brian, our waiter, was very friendly and made a delicious and strong Run Runner. I'm glad that the Flying Harpoon doesn't over-do the food.

The shrimp was excellent- big, succulent, and lightly-breaded. A side of cole slaw accompanied the baskets. The baskets had plenty of shrimp and homemade chips. The menu advertised, "The Only New Orleans Po'Boy on the Island- More falls off of our sandwiches than they put on the theirs." We were pretty hungry so we both ordered Shrimp Baskets. You come here for seafood: oysters, shrimp, catfish and crab. Our food came out piping-hot in about 15 minutes.

The one in Gulf Shores had a loud bar upstairs, so we went to the more "family oriented" one in Orange Beach- just a few miles away.

Before you eat here, be advised that there are two Flying Harpoons. My daughter and I ate here after reading some good reviews of it in Trip Advisor, and it lived up to its promise. We tried Lulu's the next day and we were soooo disappointed!! We kept saying had we not eatin at the Harpoon first Lulu's probably would have been better but the Harpoon made all other seafood second par. My friends couldn't stop raving about the gumbo! This place maybe a hole in the wall but it really has the best food in the Gulf. All of the food was hot, fresh, and amazing. We ordered buffalo shrimp as an appetizer! Oh MY AMAZING! We also ordered the shrimp basket, gumbo, and crab cake basket and the 5 of us shared it. Our waitress was super friendly and said they had the best food in the gulf. Our party had 5 so we took the other table. Most the people at the bar were locals and there was one family eating. There are only 2 "big" tables and a small table inside but seating on the patio with a small bar. After walking in we were still questioning if this was the right decision. The place looks sketchy! We decided to not let looks be our deciding factor and walked in. Upon arriving we were questioning if we actually wanted walk inside or not. But, I'll be generous and give it 2 stars. There are too many good options in Gulf Shores, to waste your time eating here. The restaurant sits at the top of an older house which means climbing stairs although they did have a single chair lift. The bread was awful and the shrimp was just OK. Our family member ordered a shrimp poor boy ($15). The shrimp were fine but the salad was a little salty for a caesar salad. Then we added a caesar salad with 12 blackened shrimp. The crab cakes were the worst I've ever eaten, the slaw was okay, the potato chips were good.
FLYING HARPOON 2 GULF SHORES PLUS
We ordered the crab and crawfish basket which included 3 cakes, potato chips and a small portion of slaw plus a beer. It took over an hour from the time we sat down, to actually being served our food. The server was friendly and did what she could but the issue may have been in the kitchen. On this day there was one waitress who was also tending bar.
